From the Mountain Tops...

They (who are They) say that time heals all wounds.  Apparently, "They" have never suffered a loss unexpectedly, watched a life cut short.  Until you have looked death, cancer, or any other life changing issue in the face, you cannot understand the depth of it's destruction.  Time does lessen the pain, but the pain remains always...it is hidden in the sunsets not shared and the milestones missed.

Every ones coping is unique, some wallow some celebrate.  Respect the way one grieves, there is no time frame and as the awkward silence will sometimes follow a loss, know that in that silence is great emotion.  Sometimes, words cannot express the heartfelt condolences.  A silent hug, a squeeze of the hand to let you know you are not alone can make a world of difference.

Avoid consoling, by referring to it as you will get over it, and it is for the best.  Comparing the loss of a human loved one to an animal can really grate on ones nerves.  Animals, yes are dearly missed but the comparison to a human can be hurtful...take the road of if I don't know what to say, don't.
